Hi D&D Guys and Girls,

Please allow me to take a few minutes of your time.

A few years ago I started building up a few MTB's and donating it to worthy
recipients. I do not build commuter bikes. I try to build something for someone
that is interested in MTB'ing but cannot afford it. (I have donated to
gardeners, students commuting to and from class and some kiddies bikes to
orphanages, but that is not my main aim.)

A number of you helped with donations of old spares in the past. One of the
bikes was donated to a 14 year old boy a few years ago. I remembered donations
from Brandon, Hardy and Dirt Rider that went into that bike. He is a few years
older now and have finished on the podium of some of the Trailseeker events as
well as topped the podium at a Babbas race or 2 (just to mention a few). He got
his dad involved in the sport soon after he started taking it a bit more
serious. together they got bikes for his mom and sister. I met up with the
young man again last weekend at the first event of the new SportsMax School
Summer Series. (He won that one with a landslide.) His story of how this bike
changed his life and the life of his family is just inspiring! (the original
bike I donated to him has been passed on to someone else also getting into the
sport!)

Well, I am still building up bikes and either selling them just to cover cost,
but preferably donating them where possible. I have just converted my trusty SS
back to a geared bike and donated that to a student in need of a MTB. This
youngster was desperately in need of some healthy exercise and some outdoors to
complement his fantastic academic results. His friend is into MTB'ing and will
assist him in getting into the recreational side of MTB'ing.

Well, this last build left me a bit low on spares. :-)

I am busy building up an older soft tail frame I got for a bargain from a
friend in Cape Town. This one will go to a young teacher with lots of
potential. I lend him my bike a few times already and he is just loving the
sport.

This is where you guys come in. I know there are a number of us that chop and
change components on our bikes for various reasons. If you happen to have a few
old parts (still in working order) lying around without use - please consider
donating them or selling them (preferably at a reasonable prize) to me.

For this build I am still in need of a few things:

Seatpost (30.9 mm)
Handlebar (31.8 mm)
Crankset (Preferably 3 chainrings - I have 3 x 9 XT derailleurs and shifters)
26" rear wheel and hub that can take 9 speed cassette (I have a front)
6 bolt rotors (I have a set of hydraulics)
26" Front shock (straight steerer - length at least 180 mm)

Any other parts or MTB frame donations are also welcome. I will most of the
time find a home for them!

Thanks in advance for any donations. I will collect almost anywhere in Gauteng.
:-)

The Russian
