What would be great was a way to assign virtual copies of an image, each using different development settings, to layers of a PSD or XCF file. Then when I update a virtual copy, I would have an option to 'update' instead of 'export' and it would update the resp. layer in the PSD/XCF w/o touching any layer masks or layer order. Layers are identified through metadata, so if I rename the virtual copy or the layer in PS/Gimp (or change the ordering), the update can still work.
