Could be possible that package you install had been built with lua support forgotten.

You could easily check that by typing in a terminal;
darktable --version

You could install darktable from OBS repository. Check on install page in darktable.org for the link.

There's same issue with 3.8.0 for debian package, and solution explained in discuss.pixls.us forum.

I found it by just search with search provider:

darktable 3.8.1 debian bulseye lua

ok....

from bash now I have:

$ lua Lua 5.4.2  Copyright (C) 1994-2020 Lua.org, PUC-Rio >

but...

$ darktable -d lua

starts darktable without lua.....

Lua must be 5.4 for this version of darktable.

        I'd start by updating to the latest stable version, 3.8.1
        and seeing if you can reproduce the issue. I don't think
        anyone wants to support 3.4.1.

            Hi everybody!

            When I create a duplicate of a selected image in lighttable and
then modify it in darkroom making a crop size, then in lighttable I can see two
different images (the original one and the duplicate cropped one) correctly.

            But... when I export them I find stored two identical images jpeg
(so the duplicate image whitout cropping like the original one).

            Is that a bug?

            How to get exported two image with different elaboration (e.g.
cropping)?

            I'm using ver. 3.4.1

            Thanks.
