Hi, Just to say that I also get surprisingly decent performance running darktable on a dual core atom although for any serious work I would want a decentish cpu and graphics card. My atom by the way isn't in a netbook but is a tiny fanless thing I use as a TV computer running Ubuntu and a small SSD for the o/s (which helps performance no end), the darktable database and photos are on fast network storage so use cases aren't quite the same.
The only real problem I have with this is that the display is (from memory) something like 1300x760 due to the widescreen TV display and it suffers horribly with edges of the display being missing due to the TV's overscan - but that is hardly darktable's fault :-) Rgds, Rob. -----Original Message----- From: Pascal de Bruijn [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: 21 October 2012 11:48 To: darktable-devel Subject: [darktable-devel] Darktable on some Netbooks Hi, I've recently got a (second-hand) netbook, it's an Asus 1215P, which has a 12" display (1366x768) and a dual core Atom CPU 1.5ghz. Because it's not a 10" model (1024x600) Darktable is quite usable on it, except that it's not superfast, but still bearable to an extent. However, I've noticed the demosaicing option is rather important: "demosaicing for zoomed out darkroom mode" always bilinear ~ 5 seconds to load at most ppg ~ 10 seconds to load So this has a rather big impact on this little CPU that couldn't :) That said, I think our new default (at most ppg) is fine for modern proper computers. Still it would be rather cool if we could do some simply CPU type detection, where (at first start) we look for what CPU is present in the system, and if it is an Atom CPU we default to always bilinear instead: $ cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep 'model name' | grep -i Atom model name : Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N550 @ 1.50GHz model name : Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N550 @ 1.50GHz model name : Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N550 @ 1.50GHz model name : Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N550 @ 1.50GHz Regards, Pascal de Bruijn ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------ Everyone hates slow websites.
