OK .. forget Geeqie or Digikam ... just look at the way dt operates.

I import a roll directly from the camera into dt. The images (in the
camera are called IMG_1234.CR2 etc ... The images go into a folder
called 2012-05-05--Family. The images are imported into dt with the
converted name 20120505-0001.CR2 using the date plus a sequence number
import option.

If I now look at any file manager dt has correctly (as asked) renamed
all of the image files in that roll to 20120505-0001.CR2 02, 03 .....etc
Just as asked.

Now when I open that folder in dt a typical true file name is
20120505-0001.CR2 but dt insists on displaying it as IMG_1234.CR2 ...
which is a file name that no longer exists.

So ... if I do a search for file IMG_1234.CR2 on my system the file is
not found; thus there is no co-relation between the dt internal name
being used and the actual file name.

Maybe that is more clear ...
