Which version of libexiv2 do you have installed?

Please also try exiv2 -pt FILENAME

This is from a really really old version of Darktable...

Still I cannot reproduce this issue (using 550D RAWs from the web) on
with the darktable-1.1.x branch (which should have all the EXIF
handling changes git master has).

Please try starting Darkable from a Terminal, and watching the console...
