Hi Jack,
I'm the maintainer of the Solaris version of Darktable.

The problems which you are logging as bugs in the darktable
redmine instance aren't appropriate for that forum (using
the word loosely).

Problems with getting started such you are experiencing
should be sent to the darktable-users email list, which
you would no doubt know about from having read through the
info available at

http://www.darktable.org/contact/

********************************************************
Please join us on irc, in our #darktable channel on the
server irc.freenode.net. We can solve a lot of problems
interactively and remove a lot of frustration that can
be exacerbated by using a bug tracking system.
********************************************************

When you do want to file a bug or enhancement request in
redmine, please remember to include the output from

darktable -d all

which dumps copious debugging information to the console.
Since Mac OSX is a unix-like system you can run this from
a terminal session and dump the output to a file:

darktable -d all > dt.log 2>&1

If you have RAW pics which you know you can reproduce a
problem with, please consider making them (and any associated
jpeg or xmp sidecar files) available on a convenient file
sharing site (or via your own website).

Finally, I noticed that you referred to darktable v1.1.2
as a "demo", and that one of the other developers was unhappy
with your doing so. This is not a demo product. This is an
open source RAW photo processing package under rapid development,
where the developers are all volunteers who work on it in their
spare time, for the love of it.

Yes, it has rough edges, and support for operating on Mac OSX
has only recently become available. We know that the package is
not perfect, and we do the best that we can to fix bugs.

Best regards,
James C. McPherson
