I think your "reading between the lines" is completely
out of touch with reality.

Canonical is a software company with a growing enterprise
customer base. Enterprise customers do not like big change
like dropping support for toolkits which they have grown
familiar with over many years. While enterprise customers
are definitely moving towards mobile platforms, they're
doing so where it makes sense.

Running a photo processing application on a mobile platform
does not make sense.

Your assumption that the proliferation of mobile-friendly
environments automatically means that desktop toolkits will
be going away very soon also does not make sense.


Also, Canonical is just one member of the open source
community. While they have influence, they do not set the
