I totally agree. The new proposal looks great as an image, but I
would definitely not want it as an icon.

I really think an application icon should carry an identity, should show a
concept, be clear and identifiable, and work for all sizes.

In this regards, I think the proposal is way to generic even if bringing
back the color of the old icon is better. But it doesn't work at all on
small sizes, and I find it way too complicated even for large sizes.

Indeed I really like the old one because I find it modern, carrying the
photo app concept but stylized though clearly identifiable (avoiding to be
mixed up with other photo app icons) and it should work for all sizes as it
is not cluttered as the new one.

All the identity of the icon is in its rainbow diaphragm which tells
everything. On the new icon, this identity is completely reduced (and
becoming really hard to notice on small sizes) due to all the black around
it which so much space!

Indeed, taking a look again at the preview, I find the big one the left
nice as an image, but even the biggest icon on the top of the right column
is completely unidentifiable for me.
