Would it be possible, in the demosaic module,to include an option for an 
external program (like dcraw)
to do the demosaicing? It might work like this: instead of using one of the 
built-in algorithms, the
user could specify an external command (along with user specified options) to 
run, that would create a
temporary image (such as a 16-bit tiff) somewhere (maybe in /tmp) that 
darktable would actually work
on. Then the history stack would be saved along with the raw file so that if it 
is re-opened, it would
run those same commands.

This would be quite a bit slower than using darktable's built-in algorithms, 
but it would
give the user some extra flexibility for experimenting, as well as helping out 
users with
as yet unsupported equipment.

This could eventually be made fancy with sliders and checkboxes for the various 
dcraw options.

Just an idea; I have no idea whether it is feasible.
