snapshot2 but I need help to finish this. It has been abandoned since
August and I don't expect to have time to get hands on it again
anytime soon.

One of the problems I have is an events nightmare when trying to use
the pipe to process the snapshot. There is some hidden event that
makes its state inconsistent between different runs, so you can't
account what is being processed and stored in the pixbufs.
