above mentioned script only takes the filedate of the xmp.
this catches all changes. tagging is one of them. 
(2000 pics with a new 'holiday' tag forces a rebuild...hmmm)

having some hash function for image processing settings (independent
of actual formatting of xmp)  would allow to shrink number of candidates
for recalculation.

no idea. -cli executes dt code headless?! 
(and changes xmp, at least the filedate, other story)
