1.0, 0.1, 2.0, 4.0 and all give above error and no char/text display
0.0 provides same display as -1.0 and -2,0 and -4.0, very small char/text
menu diplays and smaller onscreen crop window dimentions.
At present, my best display is by raising the three font entries in
~/config/darktable.gtkrc +1, and starting darktable by script:

xrandr --dpi 90; nohup darktable &
sleep 10
xrandr --dpi 80
exit
present darktable-1.5.1241_g3e1a1f0
