Thanks for the pointers. All these are not a problem for dt I would say.
We already do proper color management in dt in the cairo surface of the
develop module. Today the system ICC profile (from colord or xorg) is
automatically detected. We can also specify a specific profile. 

We just need to do as good for the preparation of the cairo surface to
be printed and we can do that without any color managed support from
cairo (again as done in the develop module).
