Well it does seem that the docs don't get included, even in some distro  
packages, and leaving them in there adds a hell of a lot to both the  
tarball and the src.rpm.
I don't want to build from git directly, as I explained, I prefer to build  
rpms.

I doubt very much that it adds anything significant to the complexity of  
the cmake system, but that's just my feeling.
It is curious how a change that would remove the embuggerance of manually  
removing the docs is seen as a bad idea.
