Well let me put my package maintainer hat first. IMHO the current doc building
system is too much bloated for the package build and the documentation is not
docbook valid either. I am not proposing anything better but as a package
maintainer for the downstream distro which in this case is openSUSE, I am
happy to provide the pdf produced by the upstream, which is produced by the
darktable develop team, as a separate doc package, as some people including
myself do not like to install documentation by default. I personally prefer to
install it when there is a necessity. Also the packaging check scripts insist
to create a separate package for the documentation as well so that suits both
needs.
