I don't know...I have just built (15 mins ago) from the latest source, and  
thus far there hasn't been a problem with this build.
I do think there may be an issue elsewhere as I have had a similar  
situation when not running darktable, and in that situation I was able to  
use alt-F2 and enter 'startx' and all was OK again...but that didn't work  
on the occasion that things ground to a halt when running darktable.
