Thank you for your suggestion! As far as I can recall, it's always nagged about missing theme -- though perhaps not this particular error --, but it hasn't caused hiccups like this before. Hicolor was already installed (v0.15 through macports) (but, as you point out, evidently not recognized to be so by dt). Adwaita was not installed, but installing it (v3.20 through macports) did nothing to change the error.
