Darktable does have a built-in HDR function. Highlight the relevant images
in the light table and then under "selected images" click "create HDR." It
will generate a DNG by stacking the selected images. It doesn't do any
alignment (I assume that is a hard problem, and not something Darktable is
interested in duplicating since Hugin already does that pretty well).
