Well, they are black on grey before activating and red on grey after and
again black on grey after deactivation.  openSUSE Tumbleweed and dt master
darktable-2.1.pre+git1188.438cb0b-1.3.x86_64.rpm.  And, yes, gtk is a
problem on my kde/plasma5 system, but appears to be a greater problem on
yours.
