Yes, in short these are the required steps:
If you are actually building darktable yourself already you can skip these:
- clone darktable's git
- install all the dependencies [0]
- mkdir build; cd build/; cmake ..
Then, do:
- in build/: make update-usermanual-it
- now you got an up-to-date doc/usermanual/po/it.po that you can translate
- when you want a test build of the manual as a pdf run this in build/:
make darktable-usermanual-it
which will create build/doc/usermanual/darktable-usermanual-it.pdf
