It appears that watermarks are positioned and sized based on the original image, not the cropped image. I haven't found a way to place the watermark near the bottom right margin of the cropped image. Hopefully, I've simply missed something in the UI; I wound up having to run darktable twice (once for the initial processing, and once to apply the desired watermark).
