Thank you for all the tips, but I still don't understand what's the
difference between the levels and the tone curve.

I wish somebody would add to the documentation:

* list of modules doing similar jobs
* this one is better at this, this one is better at that...

I'm just trying to understand and I'm sure I could do a much better
PP if I understood what I'm doing
