With released versions it's not possible to remove it. Current master clears
both the search results and the red overlay when resetting the module. That
will be available in the upcoming 2.4.0 release.

I lately resolved exactly this in my private build and think
as more people have this problem I share my solution.
It's a one-liner that also works with the latest released
version 1.1 of the OSM-GPS-map widget (I just double-checked).
I've send you pull request #1557.
BTW: Two weeks ago I asked the maintainers of this widget
when a new release is to be expected (see
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/osm-gps-map) - with no reply yet.
As there is currently very low traffic at that list and the code
repository the project seems abandoned. I consider forking its remains
or reintegrating its sources into DT.
