Darktable often seems to hang when I am importing photos, but it always finishes in the end if you wait long enough (I imagine that for 100,000 photos you would have to run the import overnight). My hypothesis is that it appears to hang because there are tags applied as part of the import operation, and tag application in Darktable does not happen in the background.
