It worked fine for me last time I used it, a few weeks ago. I don't know if it 
still works with current version, didn't use it recently.
Did you try this :
- Clic the first image
- Shift-clic the very last one
- (Or : Ctrl-A to select all the images)
- Ctrl-clic every image you want to deselect
Might sometimes be faster than selecting by row.
