It depends on your equipment. If exiv2 recognizes your equipment you are happy ;-) I didn't find any problems with image manipulation. I know a little bit more in the meantime. IMO one big problem is the exiv2-version. Bionic contains the 1 year old exiv2 0.25-3.1, but only version 0.26 allows to define own lenses and 0.26 recognizes more lenses, if you search the web. See eg http://dev.exiv2.org/boards/3/topics/3017 So the first thing is to get exiv2 0.26 work. If darktable shows a lens like 0x.... you have to define .exiv2 in the home directory. If the lens ic recognized then by darktable, you must check if lensfun recognizes it. I have lenses which are recognized by dt (on the left panel), but not on the right side (lens correction), although a lensfun-file exists. I have to do more tests, to find out, why a lens which worked with dt 2.4.3, but not with Bionic anymore. Hopefully it is a syntax problem of the lens file, which has changed. Again, the 1st step is to get exiv2 0.26 work.
