My understanding is that the "output" sliders are for making a parametric 
selection based on the pixel values *after the module has been applied to the 
image*, rather than before. I'm sure there are uses for this, but probably they 
aren't as common as operating on the pre-processing data, hence don't see much 
use in tutorials, etc... this isn't stated clearly in the Parametric mask 
section of the manual[1], so somebody correct me if I'm wrong (and maybe add 
the info to the manual if I'm right).
