I don't know what the "descreen" operation does or if it is available in
dt.  if you have to export to gimp and back to dt, all bets are off.  I
would think that dt was no longer in complete control of the operation.

but there is a simple proof.  try it on a copied image and see.  then you
are able to answer your own question.
