I have a bit of a strange setup with two machines (clients use Fedora
29, fileserver is Debian Stable) use for editing. I store my photos on
my fileserver for the most part but I do keep a local copy on the
desktop machine for speed and just as a cheap/easy backup.

I've noticed that more than a few times Darktable will lose edits but
keep star ratings if I rsync to update the fileserver. On the laptop I
use the create local copy and resync local copy functionality.

Usually I rsync with the --avt --delete-after SOURCE DEST options. I've
not lost any RAWs or the XMP files but it seems like sometimes if I move
an edit from my laptop to the fileserver and then to my desktop in that
fashion the edits will disappear somewhere along the way. I say "seems
like" because I've only noticed this on months old photos when I got
back for them. Keyword, star ratings and metadata is still present but
it's back to its import state as far as edits go. I have yet to dig back
into archives to see when/if it happened either. I can't 100% rule out
me getting forgetful with a flag on rsync at some point but that seems
unlikely as I have these things scripted.

Anyone else "lost" edits after moving a RAW/XMP around? I've always kept
Darktable versions the same between the two machines as well. Sorry for
the nebulous problem description I'm still digging for clues myself.

Thanks!

Leander
