Hello everyone,

First of all I’d like to thank all these people involved in such a great piece
of software.

I’ve known about it for a while and, not sure why I waited so long, but started
the transition not too long ago (like 2 months) from LR to DT first on a
windows machine on which I was using 2.4.

I’m now migrating slowly on a brand new iMac 5k so I can take advantage of the
larger screen, and I started up by installing the latest release 2.6. I’ve also
been reading a thread where on large screen it was reported that the file info
(in LT) does not update fast enough.
This is currently in testing phase thanks to Pascal
(https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/pull/1973
<https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/pull/1973>) and others.

I’m thinking I would like to use this dev version (and potentially pull the
latest version regularly as we progress along) but since I’m quite new to Mac
and building software from source I have (admittedly) dumb questions such as :
- Can I have 2.6 installed and the dev version compiled from source on the same
machine ?
- I’ve read the build.txt instructions
(https://github.com/darktable-org/darktable/blob/master/packaging/macosx/BUILD.txt

and understand I need to start with installing MacPorts.
        - I suppose that this file is up to date ?
        - I have read several thread where people discuss the pros and cons of
MacPorts vs HomeBrew. Should I just go ahead without questioning myself too
long and install MacPorts ? (Just trying to take the best way about this)

These are the very questions I have but I’m sure I’ll have more as I’m
proceeding, so if anyone is keen on guiding me so we can more test going on on
these specific machines, please feel free to reach out (and leave the list out
so we are not polluting everyone else ?)

Thanks a lot ahead of time for helping, and again keep up the good work, I just
love this software.

Cheers,
Seb
