The script just ensures that a text sidecar file exists for the image. The sidecar file only displays the text when you are zoomed in to one image. I tried it and it displays filename, exposure info, focal length and ISO. darktable preferences (the wheel above the images display on lighttable) > lua > create txt sidecars ....
