Hello and many thanks to the darktable team,

I use darktable on at least 2 GNU/Linux computers, with devuan ascii,
Ubuntu 18.04 & 19.04 and debian buster. On debian buster already
darktable 2.7.0+1662

Since I've got the lens Tamron SP 70-200 f2.8 DI VC model number A009
there was a problem with darktable (dt). dt doesn't recognize the
Tamron. I have to manually select the Lens Model from the (updated)
lensfun database.

The exiftool does give me the following information from a picture made
with the Tamron lens. I only included the output with the keyword "Lens":

exiftool 613A5345.CR2 | grep Lens

Lens Type                       : Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM | A or
Other Sigma Lens
USM Lens Electronic MF          : Enable After AF
Lens Drive When AF Impossible   : Continue Focus Search
Lens Info                       : 70-200mm f/0
Lens Model                      : TAMRON SP 70-200mm F/2.8 Di VC USD A009
Lens Serial Number              : 0000000000
Lens                            : 70.0 - 200.0 mm
Lens ID                         : Unknown (255) 70-200mm
Lens                            : 70.0 - 200.0 mm (35 mm equivalent:
110.4 - 315.4 mm)

The part "255" of the "Lens ID" is used in dt als lens model. As I said,
I can select the lens manually. It looks like the "Lens ID" with 255 is
used more than once, it looks like the Sigma 24-105 f/4 does have the
same "Lens ID". Is there a chance to get this corrected? Because that is
not the only dual use of a Lens ID as far as I know.

I used to get around by this. Storing and applying a preset with the
Tamron Lens. Only until I found out, that does the correction with the
focal length of the preset, not with the actual focal length of the
picture it is applied onto. The check "only when applying" doesn't make
the the preset option any better in this case. Having to store a preset
for every mm of the focal length from 70 to 200? I hope the Tamron
18-400 does have a unique Lens ID.

The behavior (only when applying) is pretty genius with most of the
modules. But in the case of lens corrections, I think there should be
the choice "only apply lens model" and take the focal and f-stop
settings as found in the exif data? Or is there a lack of understanding
on my side?

Thank you for the fish,
Ralf
