Hi, my name is Uwe,
I just joined this list since I got a question and I would like to say hello to all of you.

I am quite new to DT, trying to find out how to use it in an efficient and consistent way. So far, I have not used anything like DT but just browsed my images by some display programs and used Gimp if anything was to edit, fix, etc. A tool actually made to manage (photographic) images (especially tagging, selecting, ...) is needed now :-)

Y'day I experienced some strange phenomenon:
I had imported about 100 images, some individually, some in folders, had tagged them, had starred them. Then I unintentionally closed TD (it was late at night :-( When I reopened DT, I still had the collections of images I'd generated from them, but no images were there, and neither were the film rolls they were in.
The *.xmp files on the file system were still there, though.
So I started to re-import the images, and the system recognized the metadata (the re-imported images all had their previously given tags and ratings back!). Is there some explanation? Why were the images gone from the film roll view, but all their metadata were still known to the system and a re-import did not re-write the metadata but could refer to the old ones?

And: what happens now if I close DT (again, and intentionally?) Would again all recently imported images be gone? Mind: older images I'd imported way before have all the time be accessible in DT.

Valid explanations are very welcome.

If you say RTFM please provide a hint where to look, so far my investigations in the dociumentation have not helped me.

Thanks to you in advance
and thaks also to the developers to provide such a tool.

Uwe
