I don't profess to be an expert on any of this and know that there are
always many ways to do things but the way I get my images into darktable
is:-
Insert SD card into PC
Move the RAW image files to a /<month>/WIP/ directory on my HDD using a GUI
file manager
Start darktable
Use GUI file manager to drag image files onto the lighttable.
dt then reads them all and creates XMP files
Review images in darktable and reject with "R" where necessary.
When edits finished trash all rejected image files using darktable
Export remaining images as JPEGs using darktable
Move original image files to a /<month>/RAW/ directory using darktable
Use separate DAM software to index and tag JPEGs move them and then
"group/link" with the RAW file.
