a suggestion for anyone following this thread:
  Keep a separate list of your hot-key assignments which differ from
  default.  
      grep -v ^\;\  ./keyboardrc > <file.of.your.choice>

there doesn't appear to ever be a notice that the keyboardrc_default has
changed so one must be vigilant as new "default" assignments quite
possibly may conflict with your preferences and can cause quite some
confustion when dt does not work as *you* expect.

I find safest to close de, move keyboardrc and keyboardrc_default, then
restart dt.  keyboardrc and keyboardrc_default will be recreated
automagically.  Then go to the gear-head/preferences and reassign, or one
can directly edit keyboardrc (remember to remove the ";" at start of
line), but remember that order can be critical as I found above.
