It seems to me that it may be sorting by ‘last access’ or ‘last modified’
date, instead of ‘created’ date, or ‘EXIF → taken’ date.

Since you are using a development build, you ought to report this to the
developers, (after confirming that that is what is actually happening).
This is the [Darktable-User] list, not developers list, (and I am not sure
which method is recommended to report development bugs, but GIt will tell
you).

Bernhard, are you also on a development build, or master branch? I am using
3.2.1 master build on Ubuntu 20.04 (compiled myself) and not having this
issue at all.
