At the moment, I'm struggling with importing photos from my camera (Canon
EOS600D). After connecting the camera to my PC (Windows10) via USB, Windows
finds the camera and asks me what to do. But whatever I choose, the camera
won't get visible in darktable. So I cannot import from it.
You won't like my answer.
1. I've never had this problem with my cameras, Canon, Fuji or Sony.
But then I use Linux :-/
2. When I upload from the camera I find it suck the camera battery.
This is particularly acute with my Canon, so-so with the Fuji
and annoying but not as crippling with the Canon when I use the Sony.
3. Annoyed by the above I pulled the card, used a USB adapter and the file
manager to transfer the RAW/JPG onto the computer, then imported to DT.
Much faster! Less wear and tear on the cameras and on my psyche.
"Tether" I ONLY use that for a live-view. My cameras have video output of some
sort and with suitable cable I can run that to my phone or tablet; larger screen.
Right now it only works on the Sony and only bench-top and not quite the way
you'll find described by some users on YouTube, 'cos this model was never designed
for that, but apparently it's a lot easier with Canons which are. But then the
Sony does great video. YMMV.
