I had the 'rename path' once but now in 3.4.x I no longer see this. Is
there some configuration that I need to change?

One safe way to do it would be:
- use the collect module to select all pictures with an old hierarchy
tag
- attach to them the tag from the new hierarchy
- detach from them the old hierarchy tag
- repeat for each tag
This assumes all your pictures are in darktable's database. Another
option
would be to use a script to modify all the XMP sidecars, and re-import.
while this works with darktable 3.x onwards there is a more convinient
method within the tagging module:
