Really, unpack with no Windows? The file is either an ".exe" or ".dmg".
  Can Linux unpack those?

The new firmware fixed the following problem: "*Fixed an issue that caused
pairing between the camera and devices running the SnapBridge app under iOS
14 or iPadOS 14 to fail.*"

So if the OP needs this fix, he is maybe running on Apple hardware.

You are right in the that OP has failed to explain the problem.

*To the OP: * Why not post a screen capture showing the problem? When
the error occurs capture the screen. If you don't know how, just
literally take a picture of the screen with a camera or your phone.

When capturing a screen, many times video works best as it shows the full
sequence of events.

What puzzles me is the following:

For my DSLR the instructions tell me:

 1. Run *F-D500-V130W.exe* to extract the following file to a folder
    named “D500Update”:
    • D500_0130.bin (the camera firmware)
 2. Using a card slot or card reader, copy “D500_0130.bin” to a memory
card that has been formatted in the camera.

https://downloadcenter.nikonimglib.com/en/download/fw/383.html - and that's been that way for more than a decade of DSLRs now,

while for that P1000 the instructions say:

 1. Run *F-P1000-V14W.exe* to extract the firmware to a sub-folder in
the new folder. The resulting file and folder hierarchy is shown
    below:
    • firmware (the sub-folder containing the firmware)
    • firmware.bin (the camera firmware, located in the “firmware” folder)
 2. Using a card slot or card reader, copy the “firmware” folder to a
memory card that has been formatted in the camera.
Note: Be sure to copy the “firmware” folder to the root (top-most)
directory of the memory card. The camera will not recognize the
new firmware if it is placed in a folder under the root directory.

Perhaps it's an issue of folder vs. no folder?
Just an idea ...

... simply guessed due to the lack of info from the thread opener.
