I can confirm that I had the same behavior on my notebook around the release of 3.6. Not sure about the exact version of dt, because at that time I did not have much time for it. I was running xfce on manjaro with Nvidia and OpenCL. Since then 3 things have changed: I switched (for another reason) to gnome shell, I updated the system and darktable to the latest version, which means master for dt, and I am not facing that issue any more.
