Works for me. The only thing I could imagine to explain that you are lacking 
the location is that you once had the image imported before darktable (fully) 
supported geo tagging and the XMP file still contains an empty or invalid 
location. That way a new import would read the correct location from the DNG 
and overwrite it afterwards with the data from the XMP. Please try to remove 
the image from the database (remove it from lighttable), rename/remove the XMP 
and reimport it. If that help you can either do that for all your images (and 
lose your edits) or instead of deleting the XMP files you can try to write a 
minimal shell script which uses grep to remove the two lines that contain 
"exif:GPS". Make sure to backup the files though. ;)
