No, that is not normal, but at the same time, as you are using JPEG images
and 32 bit I am not so surprised.

Please run darktable from the command line and pay the errors. Probably you
will get more information from there. Also, there is a post on the blog
about recommended settings for 32 bit systems. Try to find and follow it.
