I have had amd but went with intel the last time and probably will again
as (impression) all seems *better*.

Get a smaller ssd, 128/256 and use it for operating system and home,
putting ~/Downloads and ~/Documents (photos) as sim-links to sata drive(s)
with /var and anything else that might use/require large amounts of
storage.
