Try right clicking on the slider, then type 4650 and see what you get.

Hmm I don't know what scale photoshop uses, so it's a bit hard to work out the 
equivalent value.

No, anything between quite dark grey (almost black) and white should work.  Are
you drawing a square around a decent sized area?  You probably want a fair few
pixels to avoid variations in pixel colour due to noise, etc.
