Hi, one idea might be to indroduce some of the functionality of ShiftN into a darktable module (see http://www.shiftn.de). ShiftN is a Windows program but can be used under Linux with wine. Works very well to automatically adjust perspective corrections. The latest version has been released with sources under the LGPL 3. So at least one could learn from that program.
