Depending on what distro you are on and how updated this is, there has
recently been an issue introduced, afaik with dbus. can't recall all
details but do remember that:
- problem shows in some applications using libgphoto, I'm aware of nautilus
and Digikam
- people are working on it, so I'm holding my breath for a timely update...

And yes, the 7D has no mass-storage support. Personally I'm using a card
reader for now.
