Hi,
First of all a big thank you to all the developers and other contributors to
this amazing project. I am a photographer hobbyist and enjoy the challenge
of using free-libre tools for my workflow. You can find my Creative Commons
licensed work here - http://tomassobekphotography.co.nz/
I haven't found a way to search the e-mail archives so my apologies if my
question has been already answered before. If there is a way to search the
archives, please point me in the right direction. The search on top of the
page http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_name=darktable-users
seems to search the whole SF site but not the archive.
Now the question: I was wondering if Darktable has any functionality for
local adjustments like dodging and burning. The only functions in this
direction I found are graduated density and vignetting. However I am missing
ability to adjust tonality based on a specific mask - to lighten or darken
only a part of the image based on its location and shape I choose. Ideally
any function/filter would allow such masking process.
I have read in the manual about the "only if" blending mode, though this is
not what I am asking for. My intention is to adjust areas based on a hand-
drawn mask for example, not to create a mask based on the colour parameters
of the pixels. If this is not currently possible or planned in Darktable,
can you point me in a direction of software that could do such a thing? I am
aware that I can do such adjustments in Gimp. But this has many drawbacks:
* The workflow becomes more cumbersome and complicated.
* Any future changes to raw conversion parameters force a rework of
adjustments in Gimp.
* Currently Gimp does not fully support 16/32-bit editing.
Thanks again for this project, it is much appreciated!
Cheers, Tomas
