Hi Alexander,
In my experience geotagging in darktable will over-write any existing gps
data, so you would need to select only images without gps tags. It could be
a useful feature if future versions had an option to not over-write
existing tags.
You could look at using exiftool and a script to do what you are wanting to
do outside of darktable.
