Here are detailled instructions on how to install CUDA : Getting started
guide for 
Linux<http://docs.nvidia.com/cuda/cuda-getting-started-guide-for-linux/index.html#runfile-installation>
The download page <https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-downloads>

If you can compile the CUDA example deviceQuerry and run it then your
installation is ok.
I don't know if OpenCL/darktable make use of CUDA
